Collaborating with Google Creative Labs over the last few years, we have been talking about technology, reading experiences and finding ways to bridge the gap between the magic of the internet on the one hand and straight PDFs passing off as digital books on the other. The outcome is Editions At Play, a place for books powered by the magic of the internet, that champions delightful reading experiences you can read on your phone.
Editions At Play, launched in February 2016, the year where the mobile is set to be the most popular way to read ebooks, is an experiment between Visual Editions and Google’s Creative Lab Sydney to explore new kinds of digital books. Editions At Play, with digitally native logo design by Universal Everything, champions and creates books that change dynamically on readers’ phones or tablets, with the aim to engage the next generation of readers through digital, book-ish, mobile innovation.
Editions At Play launched with two new titles: a book that travels the world called Entrances & Exits by Reif Larsen set inside Google Street View; and a book that takes sides called The Truth About Cats & Dogs by the rivalling Joe Dunthorne and Sam Riviere. A further two books, a book that unfolds and a book that loses its memory, are set for launch in April, with further titles following later in the year. All books are sold through Google Play.
